Ingredients

For the Chocolate Cake
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Cheesecake Layer
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and fully incorporated.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Once done, remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Cheesecake Layer
  1. In a separate bowl, blend the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until combined.
  3. Spread the cheesecake mixture evenly on top of the cooled chocolate cake.
  4. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to set the cheesecake layer.

Notes

For a healthier option, you can substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend or use Greek yogurt in place of butter. For a fruity twist, consider adding crushed raspberries or strawberries on top of the cheesecake layer or swirl in some caramel sauce for extra decadence. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Best served chilled.
