  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • to taste Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring often, until they're golden and caramelized.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  5. Drain any excess fat, then stir in the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  6. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to come together beautifully.
  7. While the mixture is simmering, toast the hamburger buns until golden brown.
  8. Scoop the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and place the top bun.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

Ingredient Substitutions: Swap ground beef for turkey or chicken for a leaner option. For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of water to prevent drying out.
